Artist Spotlight: Get to know MissGray

We are incredibly pleased to welcome up-and-coming Kent-based DJ and producer MissGray to Outer Edge Audio!

For MissGray, 2024 will always be remembered as the year she decided to follow, chase, and ultimately achieve her musical dreams. After a bumper year that saw her support the likes of Etherwood, Monrroe, Riya, and Document One, as well as playing shows across the UK and internationally, her focus is now firmly on the year ahead.

MissGray kicks off 2025 with the spellbinding Rise EP, a collection of four deeply personal tracks, coming later this month on Outer Edge Audio. We caught up with her ahead of the release to talk about her journey from avid D&B fan to DJ and producer, the origins and inspirations behind the Rise EP, and her plans for the year ahead.

OE: Tell us a little about your journey in music so far and what inspires you.
MG: Drum and Bass music has always been an important part of my life, and I’ve always had a love for it. At the end of 2023, I decided I wanted to learn how to produce music. I’ve played the piano ever since I was young, and even after a period when I didn’t play, I would still occasionally sit at the piano and play tunes. I wanted to be able to incorporate this into my own music. I’m a huge fan of cinematic and orchestral sounds, and that was the style I wanted to bring to my own productions. Artists like Keeno have been a huge inspiration with his orchestral D&B, and Etherwood’s music has always inspired me too.

OE: Listening to the Rise EP, it sounds like there’s an interesting story behind the music. Could you share a little bit about the origins of the EP?
MG: I’ve had an incredible year since I decided to make my own music. Before that, times were a little difficult. I’d never have imagined that after a year of producing and DJing, I would be releasing music, DJing in the mountains of Spain, or flying out to Sweden to DJ there. So, the Rise EP is somewhat of a personal journey. Moonlit Mind was titled after a long period of sleepless nights, overthinking before deciding to create my own music. Chase The Sun serves as a reminder to always follow your dreams, just as I did. Rise is about knowing that, no matter the situation I found myself in, I’d always come out of it okay—eventually, we all will.
Mountains was inspired by a recent trip to Spain, where I had the chance to DJ in some beautiful locations, surrounded by like-minded people who were there for the love of the music. Also, being able to meet someone who has been a huge inspiration to me during the trip was something I’ll never forget.

OE: Is there a track on the EP that stands out for you? One that you are particularly proud of?
MG: It has to be Mountains. Taking a step away from D&B and creating Mountains is something I am really proud of. Mountains also holds a lot of emotion for me. I listen to it and remember where I was before embarking on my journey into music, compared to where I ended up, and it just brings me so much joy.

OE: Looking back on your journey since the beginning, what would you say has been your favourite moment?
MG: It’s really hard to pick just one. I’ve been blessed to have had some amazing opportunities in my first year of music, and I’m honestly so grateful. Mountain Bass is definitely up there for me—what an experience. I would urge anyone who enjoys more intimate festivals to go at least once.
Being invited to Sweden with the Bass Blasted crew was a weekend I’ll never forget. Such an awesome bunch of people, and I was able to do a 140 to D&B set of all the music I love—it was just so cool! I also have to shout out Interstellar Audio for having me on board with my music, releasing my first EP, and giving me the opportunity to be part of their line-ups. The whole year has been a highlight. So much love for everyone.

OE: Looking to the year ahead, what can we expect from MissGray in 2025?
MG: I’ve got some great gigs lined up. You can catch me in Nottingham for the Interstellar Audio x Keeno event in March, which I’m excited about. It’s a huge line-up full of awesome people! I’ve also been working on some new music, so watch this space!
